GUTTERSNIPE PREMIERE!

Last year I was asked to do some designs and a poster for a short live-action film called Guttersnipe. It's about a schizophrenic homeless man, whose best friend is a blues-throated talking shopping cart named Abbott.  The film was directed by Brooks Larson.

It's beginning to catch some steam and has been selected in a few film festivals already.  Congrats to the whole crew for their hard work!  I can't wait to see it's entirety when it premieres this friday!  Try to catch the film where you can and support indie film making!

I won't spoil what these designs were used for, but I did get permission to show them:

Below are the initial quick ruffs drawn on my iPad.  I didn't need to tie them down that much since I had some live action reference shots.

Q Pop Thailand Flood Relief Fundraiser Art Auction and sale

Q Pop will be holding an art auction and sale to help benefit the people of Thailand that suffered the major and very costly flood last year.  The sad part is it left a devastating toll including missing people, deaths, and destroyed industrial areas but barely any media coverage.

Im sure all the awesome big name artists donating will make a difference and help out with their gifts!

The image above is the meager piece I donated to help out.  The one for auction is a very limited one of a kind edition color way due to "happy accidents" in the printing process and you'll only see it live.

Come by and check out some great inspiring artists and support the cause tonight!

Location:

Q POP
128 Astronaut E S Onizuka St
Los Angeles, CA 90012
Phone: (213) 687-7767

UPDATE: There's my crap next to the awesome Kevin Dart.

MY BEST MAN SPEECH FOR JERICHO & BRIANNA

My newly wedded bro Jericho and sis in-law Brianna, gave me the honor to be their best man to their wedding. To me, it was more like "I tried my best, man." I wish I would have been able to be more involved and do more but the wedding was still a blast regardless. And as a cop out to giving a nerve racking speech, I decided to do an animated piece instead.

These were the initial ruff designs I did on the iPad, I wanted to keep our animated versions as bare-bones and recognizable.

When I went to clean up, I made the decision to give each character their own color so the younger and older versions of us wouldn't confuse the viewer.

This was the animatic done right after the designs were locked. SAH and I boarded, and Ryan put it all together at the end.  The project was fun and a close call, I started to write what I needed to say late August and we finished it a day or 2 before the wedding.

Doing stuff like this reminds me why I got into this crazy animation world...

PIZZA QUEST FOR THE NINTENDO 3DS

Here's another fun quickie project I did on top of the regular hectic grind at 6PH. Pizza Quest was a short pilot developed through College Humor and was exclusively done for Nintendo's own lineup of original content. This was the only link I could find of someone recording their 3DS and for some reason the video is down on College Humor's own site:

It was fun coming up with the look for both characters and backgrounds for the show. A Pseudo Art Director as it were. The clients where looking for a mixture of Scott Pilgrim meets Adventure Time. It was fun working with Frank, Adam, Joel and some of the crew that I rarely got to work with nowadays.

This was the first time I used my iPad for production to do the initial ruffs, and subsequently finished off in flash for retakes and animation:

The BGs where also fun to do since I'm a big fan of pizza! Shout outz to Village Pizzeria! I wanted to make the pizza dimension's colors to feel as warm, pizza-ish and adventure timey as possible:

Check it out if you a have 3DS!

LITTLE WEAPON

Here's a character I designed based on a song called Little Weapon from Lupe Fiasco. I've had this idea on the works for quite sometime to do some story sketches for it too.

AUTODESK THE DIGITAL CANVAS GALLERY IN SF!

Last week I was invited be a part of an art gallery thrown by Autodesk at their own One Market Gallery in SF, CA. The gallery was called The Digital Canvas and showcased 100 different iPad art pieces spanning from people across the globe using the Sketchbook Pro app on the iPad. Its pretty amazing what the possibilities this app can do, I've even heard one artist preferring working on the iPad rather on a Cintiq! Madness! Click HERE to see a blogpost spotlighting the event at their own Sketchbook blog.

Me with the curator of the show Susan Murtaugh. Her tutorial for the Sketchbook Pro for the iPad is great way to learn all the features of the app!

Hanging out with bad ass artist Goro Fujita. His art was used for the app's splash screen. I'm very familiar with his work.

My Sweetheart Jane and I taking a quick snapshot in front of the Embarcadero before heading into Osha Thai for after reception dranks.

Here are the sketches I submitted that will be in display at the gallery.

The gallery opens tomorrow to the public to check it out if your in town! Congrats to all the other artists as well! here's the promo video for it as well.
